Onimusha Way of the Sword early release date

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is releasing three weeks earlier than expected on September 4

Capcom has announced that it’s bringing the release date of its upcoming sword-swinging action adventure and series revival, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, forward three full weeks. Originally slated to launch on September 25, 2026, it’s now set to hit digital stores and physical retail shelves (disc and all!) on September 4, 2026.

This is good news for a number of reasons, the obvious being that eager Onimusha fans and anyone converted after having played the recent demo can get their hands on the game a lot earlier than expected. But it also brings the game out of the busiest corner of the already-packed September/October release schedule, which is no doubt a big part of why Capcom changed the date. There are still a handful of key titles around it, but nowhere near as much competition in that first week of September.

Along with this move, the “pre-order bonus” content for the game will now become an “early purchase bonus” which will apply to anyone who pre-orders Onimusha: Way of the Sword up until September 4 but also anyone who buys the game post-launch, up until its original launch date of September 25. The bonus content from playing the demo will remain in place.

Here’s the social post from Capcom announcing the update:

Having played Onimusha: Way of the Sword at Tokyo Game Show last year and then again in a longer session at Summer Game Fest this year, it’s shaping up to be something quite special, offering good things for longtime fans of the classic, tank control-style entries as well as for anyone who gets a kick out of the modern breed of challenging, combat-focused action adventure games and “soulslikes.”

Onimusha: Way of the Sword releases on September 4 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
