Today is March 10, or “MAR10 DAY,” and to celebrate Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment aired a dedicated Nintendo Direct for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The Direct itself began with introductions from the movie’s core cast of Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser) and newcomer to the Mario movie-verse, Brie Larson (Rosalina), before diving into the main event – the film’s final trailer before it lands in cinemas very soon on April 1.
You can watch the trailer in full right below:
The trailer starts with some already-familiar sequences, but we pretty soon get a look at some brand-new stuff, including new character reveals! Wart is here, all the way from Super Mario Bros. 2 (and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, technically) and accompanied by his army of Ninjis.
There’s a heap of cool stuff going on here, blending iconic bits from the Super Mario Galaxy games but also a healthy amount from Super Mario Odyssey and some of the modern 2D games, so this is absolutely going to be another game of Spot the Reference for fans hitting the cinemas.
That’s not all – following the final trailer, the cast returns to plug the film, now including Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.) and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad). But then comes the reveal of even more of the cast joining the fun this time around, which includes none other than Donald Glover as Yoshi. Yes, the same Childish Gambino that once name-dropped a Super Smash Bros. in a song as a punchline about threesomes. I’m so here for it.
We also get confirmation that Wart is being played by the great Luis Guzmán, and the wonderful Issa Rae is playing Super Mario Galaxy’s iconic Honey Queen.
If you want to watch the full Direct as it aired this morning, you can check it out right here.
Tickets for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are on sale right now, and there’s plenty more to throw your cash at if you’re so inclined, including Yoshi popcorn buckets and brand collabs with the likes of Uniqlo and Lush.
