Epic Games has revealed some important new details around its upcoming fourth season of Fortnite Chapter 7, dubbed Season 4: Override, which launches on August 20, 2026.
We’re yet to find out exactly what Override is about, aside from prevailing rumours that suggest it’ll include a host of video game crossovers with the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Persona, Crash Bandicoot and even Kingdom Hearts. But we now at least have confirmation that Season 3’s most game-changing feature, the adorable Sprites that players can find, collect and equip for unique buffs, will return in Override.
A post from Epic in its official Community says that Season 4 will bring with it a whole new generation on Sprites with new designs, powers and rare variants. That’s exciting in and of itself, but one big new feature should delight anyone who’s spent the last weeks and months building a portfolio of dozens upon dozens of the little guys, and it’s called the Sprite Garden.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override introduces the Sprite Garden
This new mode/island will give your Sprites (from both Season 3 and Season 4) an idyllic getaway to live in, where you can show them off and interact with them, and even visit friends’ Sprite Gardens to compare menageries. The whole thing gives me flashbacks to Sonic Adventure‘s Chao Gardens, so perhaps the hedgehog himself isn’t the only thing Fortnite is borrowing – methinks we may even see Chao sprites, if we’re lucky.
Interestingly, Epic also notes that the Sprite Garden has been built in collaboration with Fairview Portals, a creative studio headed by Jon Favreau (director of The Mandalorian and Happy Hogan in the modern Spider-Man films, among many other things).
For those still yet to complete their Season 3 Sprite collection (I’d applaud anyone who’s managed such a feat), it’s been suggested that some of them may return in future. Season 4: Override’s new roster of Sprites will also include the five winners from Fortnite’s Design-A-Sprite contest, making them the only confirmed additions so far. Any Gizmos or Sprite Dust in your possession when the seasons change over will be reset as well, so use them up!
