Marvel’s Wolverine has finally clawed onto a release date

PlayStation and Insomniac Games have come out of nowhere and revealed the release date for the hugely-anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine.

The game will officially launch for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, which is less than seven months away!

Surprisingly, despite the game now being somewhat within reach, Insomniac hasn’t chosen to accompany this release date announcement with any other information whatsoever, whether that’s gameplay details, new screenshots and footage, or even what pre-order options and editions will be available for purchase. A very clean and simple announcement if there ever was one.

Marvel’s Wolverine was first announced back in September of 2021, so it’ll have been a full five years between reveal and release, and between then and now Insomniac Games also launched the well-received Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The studio has confirmed that their Spider-Man titles and this new Wolverine game share a continuity, and the game’s creative leadership comes across from other Insomniac titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Per a PlayStation Blog post from Insomniac, Marvel’s Wolverine will send the iconic character “…on perilous excursions to exotic locales, including the island nation of Madripoor, the frosted wilderness of Canada, and the narrow city streets of Tokyo – all potential battlegrounds for fierce, bloody, destructive action.”

“Marvel’s Wolverine is built from the ground up for PlayStation 5 consoles. Injecting our Super Hero know-how into this new adventure, this is an original take on Logan and his iconic adamantium-centric skillset… that’s a fancy way of saying “claws.”

We aim to deliver the ultimate Wolverine fantasy built on Insomniac staples like fast, fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenets of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all-time. We’re breaking new ground with Wolverine, yes, but our penchant for telling stories about heroes overcoming colossal odds is as strong as ever. We’re eager to explore Logan’s story with you and tap into his signature spin on heroism, which is much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac.”
