Pokémon Pokopia‘s first big, paid DLC expansion has arrived, and alongside it a massive Version 2.0.0 update that introduces, among plenty of other things, the ability to Dive and explore underwater for the first time.
And while the Bubbly Basin expansion and its corresponding new area are locked behind the DLC, the Dive move is part of the free update. So whether or not you’ve bought the Expansion Pass, if you’re jumping back into Pokopia and want to quickly get to the good stuff and start using Dive, we’ve put together a quick guide on how to do just that. We’ve also noted where you can find and access Bubbly Basin for DLC owners.
How to unlock Dive in Pokémon Pokopia
Once you’ve updated your copy of Pokémon Pokopia to the latest version, here are the steps you’ll need to follow to unlock the Dive move and begin exploring underwater.
Prerequisites: In order to learn Dive, you will need to complete (or have already completed) the request “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach. You will also need the ability to jump and to know the move Surf.
- Head to Bleak Beach and speak to Professor Tangrowth at the Pokemon Centre
- The Professor will point out a mysterious new land mass out in the ocean that wasn’t there before
- Swim to it and speak to the hungry Manaphy, who’ll ask you for five (5) pieces of seaweed
- If you don’t have five (5) seaweed on you, there will be enough laying around on this small island
- Hand them over, and Manaphy will teach you Dive!
- Manaphy will also point out a nearby cave where you can Dive down and find some treasure, to give you a feel for the controls

How to Dive in Pokémon Pokopia
Here are the Dive/underwater exploration controls, in case you need them:
- Hold (B) while underwater to swim
- While holding (B) you can press [L] to dive deeper or press [R] to float higher
- If you hold [ZL] you will float in place, making it easier to place items in specific locations
- You can also quickly spin the left stick to sink to the bottom
Note: You can breath indefinitely underwater, so there’s no pressure to return to the surface at any point!
How to access Bubbly Basin in Pokémon Pokopia
Prerequisites: In order to learn access the Bubbly Basin DLC, you will need to own the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. You will then need to complete (or have already completed) the request “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach. You will also need to learn the newly added move Dive included in the free Version 2.0.0 update.
- After performing the previous steps to find Manaphy and unlock the Dive move, go back to the Bleak Beach Pokémon Centre
- Here you’ll meet Popplio, who will tell you about a Gate to a new area, hidden way out in the ocean
- Go to the spot shown, Dive down and open the Gate (assuming your Trainer Level is adequate)
- Go through and you’ll arrive in Bubbly Basin!
