It’s officially Pokémon Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a brand-new set expansion for the ever-popular Pokémon TCG Pocket app.
This month’s new release is Paldean Wonders, a 131-card set with a focus on, well, Paldean Pokémon. Whatever your thoughts are on Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, there are some decent pulls to be had here whether you’re in it for the collecting, the deck building and battling, or both.
As a smaller “a” set, there is once again just one booster pack type to open, which should make completing the base set of 93 cards nice and straightforward. In addition to these there are six 1-star, fifteen 2-star, thirteen shiny, two crowns, and one 3-star immersive card to collect.
As the community has already pointed out quite emphatically, a pretty significantly portion of Paldean Wonders’ art has been reused from the physical Pokémon TCG. It’s certainly not new for there to be crossover, but it does affect the majority of cards this time around, which may lessen the excitement for those already collecting IRL.
For what it’s worth, the Paldean theme does mean these are a lot of fairly modern cards so it seems like what we’re seeing is art being rotated out of the physical game and into the TCG Pocket app soon after.
As always, this expansion brings with it a new run of events for players to participate in. Here’s what’s on the cards in the future (via the official post):
Pokémon TCG Pocket app February/March events
- Late February to early March: Enjoy a Paldean Wonders emblem event where you can obtain emblems to set on your player profile if you win battles against other players and earn items from completing missions.
- Early March: Bonus Week missions will be available, where you obtain pack hourglasses, special accessories, and other rewards just for logging in.
- Mid to late March: Win solo battles during the Charcadet Drop Event to obtain cards from Promo Pack B Series Vol. 5. There will also be a wonder pick event featuring Clodsire and Pawmi. Wonder pick to get promo cards, and earn additional rewards, including a promo card exchange ticket, by completing missions.
