Saros, the upcoming spiritual successor to 2021’s Returnal, from PlayStation Studios developer, Housemarque, has officially gone gold. The game still has a good few weeks before it launches exclusively for PS5 on April 30, 2026, but this news signals that the work is done to the point where it’s complete and ready to ship, with any remaining work left to update patches and potential future content plans.
Considering the game was originally delayed from a launch date of March 20, 2026, this is unsurprising but good news for those of us keenly awaiting its arrival.
The studio announced the news on social media in incredibly simple terms, accompanied by a very intense-looking graphic and the hashtag #notAprilFools, just to ensure we’re all clear on this 24-48 hours of literal hell on the internet.
While it’s a new IP, Saros very visibly shares a lot of DNA with the fantastic Returnal, as a fast-paced 3D bullet ballet in a dark and hostile sci-fi setting where death is a given.
What should set Saros apart is an attitude that’s more of embracing of, and dare I say encouraging of, death as a means of progress. There looks to be even more of a narrative focus this time around, certainly more character work (led by the dashing Rahul Kohli) and more permanent and purposeful progression.
