Yoshi and the Mysterious Book has penciled in a May 21 release date

Following on all of the other fun news to come out of Mario (Mar 10) Day this year, Nintendo has just revealed the release date for the next big original game in the Mario universe, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The game launches exclusively for the Nintendo switch 2 on May 21, 2026.

First announced during a Nintendo Direct in September last year, this gorgeous-looking new adventure sees Yoshi and his friends discover a mysterious, sentient book – the fantastically-named Mr. E – full of dazzling new worlds to explore and creatures to befriend and catalogue.

This brand-new trailer announcing the release date gives us a look at one of these adorable creatures, and how Yoshi will interact with it in various ways to make new discoveries and search out secrets. You can even name the creatures you find and record! Oh, and Bowser Jr. is here?

Take a look below:

Here’s a bit more on the trailer above from the official Nintendo news post:

Meet Mr. E

Poor Mr. E took quite a wallop from his crash landing. While he usually has information about the mysterious creatures within his pages, he can’t quite remember any of it. Yoshi will need to dive into its pages to help recover Mr. E’s lost knowledge and get him back on the write track!

Once Yoshi is transported to the storybook world, it’s time to wonder. If you see a creature, mosey on over to them! There are different ways to interact and learn about creatures and their habitat in each chapter. You may want to try carrying them or touching other objects with them. Hmm…wonder what they tastes like…

Anyways! Once you discover more about a creature, you’ll need to experiment to find everything there is to know about them. Let’s see…did we get all the info? Nope! But that’s okay, you’re sure to discover even more as you explore each chapter.

Welp, before we leave our new pal to it, let’s give them a name! In the video above, they used the name Glubbit. What will you name your discovery?

Will you be picking up Yoshi’s next adventure this May? What would you have named that Glubbit? Let us know in the comments or on our social pages!
