A potential LEGO Cities: Skylines game has appeared via Korea’s ratings board

Well, this is interesting. Among a fresh batch of video game classification decisions made by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, shared via Gematsu, a surprise new LEGO video game has seemingly been outed, and it’s not what I would’ve expected!

Alongside ratings for some already-announced games such as Gears of War: E-Day, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and Persona 4 Revival, a listing has been spotted for a game titled LEGO Skylines, and published by Paradox Interactive. If those two names sound familiar, it’s because Paradox Interactive is the publisher of the Cities: Skylines series, implying that a LEGO spin-off of that very franchise is in the works.

Here is a direct screenshot from the spreadsheet of new listings available on the GRAC web portal:

This is obviously hugely exciting news, at least potentially, as a video game rating isn’t 100% guaranteed to result in the actual release of a game, though the fact that it’s been rated by an official body does carry some weight. The thought of playing a city-building simulator using LEGO bricks and builds is sure to light a fire under fans of both of those things, so if this does indeed reveal itself to be happening I’ll be incredibly keen to see how the Cities: Skylines formula has been adapted for a broader audience and how LEGO, which of course has its very own, long-running City theme in the physical sets, has been integrated.

Time will only tell what comes of this, but with Summer Game Fest just around the corner (which we’ll be attending!), as well as a big PlayStation State of Play, there are definitely opportunities in the very near future for Paradox Interactive to formally announce something.
