Among a stacked Nintendo Direct showcase for June 2026, which already featured plenty of hugely-exciting news for RPG fans, Nintendo went ahead and also announced a whole new Xenoblade game.
Titled Xenoblade Genesis, yes, we’re sans the “Chronicles” part this time, this essentially looks to be a fresh start for the franchise – probably as different from Xenoblades’ prior as those were to Xenogears or Xenosaga, but in a time where the name is recognisable enough that it’s been kept.
No solid release date for this one yet, but it’s been given a window of 2027, exclusively on Switch 2.
Take a look at the reveal trailer below:
You can see a lot of the hallmarks of the Xenoblade games here, like a big open world that stretches out into the distance (and seemingly doesn’t follow the geographical conventions our own world), a cast of powerful playable characters, and plenty of anime bullshit. Our protagonist looks to be a woman this time around, and one attending some sort of academy for Vesselai, those with the ability to control elemental powers through something called Anima.
Three Xenoblade Chronicles games are coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Also announced alongside this news, the core Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy is coming across to the Nintendo Switch 2. Available standalone or as paid upgrades for owners of the Switch versions, the first of these is out right now digitally (or July 30, 2026 physically) with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The upgraded titles will feature performance at 60FPS, and in 4K (TV mode) or 1080p (handheld mode), and each will come with specific new additions such as high-speed vehicles for map traversal in Xenoblade Chronicles, new action battles with Blade control in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and wave-based defensive battles in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, plus a smattering of new content across all three.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches July 30, 2026 (digital) / October 1, 2026 (physical). Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives, December 3, 2026 (digital and physical).
