After being shuttered by its original parent company, GameStop, long-running print and digital publication Game Informer made something of a triumphant return last year under new ownership and with the team returning in full.
Since then, it’s come back in full force, including the revival of the Game Informer print magazine. For those of us that have been around a while, that’s a bit special. I still remember walking into my local EB Games to pick up the newest copy to read on my lunch breaks, and a lot of friends were equally devastated when it disappeared off Aussie shelves. But even after GI’s resurrection, its print product has been restricted to those in the US.
Which brings me to today’s news, where the publication has announced it’s finally opening up print subscriptions for Game Informer to around 40 more countries – including right here in Australia! On offer are 12-month subscriptions that cover a total of 10 issues, including the physical issues as well as access to digital versions, plus some benefits for the Game Informer website such as fewer ads, exclusive web features and a digital archive. This all does not come cheap, though, as a subscription will set you back a cool $230 AUD, which works out to $23 an issue, a significant step up from what we all used to pay way back when.
The very next issue is also a special one that might tempt folks to part with that cash, given it’s the 35th Anniversary issue, which will come with an exclusive celebratory poster as well as a cover game that the team hasn’t given away but promises will be exciting.
