Nintendo has revealed the next game being added to its library of Nintendo GameCube Classics on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s the classic – if divisive – Super Mario Sunshine.
Super Mario Sunshine comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13
The game will be available for all of those with an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription starting August 13, at which point an update to the Nintendo GameCube app on the Switch 2 will add the game.
Notably, Super Mario Sunshine is technically already on both the original Switch and Switch 2 via the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package released back in 2020, but that was only available for a set period and is now discontinued both physically and digitally, meaning this will now be the easiest way to play Sunshine on a Switch 2. It’s a shame, as the All-Stars version is a proper port with an updated widescreen resolution, UI and controls, whereas the GameCube Classics release will represent the original 2002 game.

But that’s not the only update for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass members! On both the Switch and Switch 2, the Virtual Boy app is receiving its final two game additions in the form of ZERO RACERS and D-HOPPER. Interestingly, both are titles that were never officially released, making this quite a unique opportunity to check out two games that otherwise would never have seen the light of day.
Both games land on August 4, alongside an update to the Virtual Boy app that will add the option to customise the screen colour – handy if the classically-harsh red and black hurts your eyes as much as it did everyone who tried to use the actual Virtual Boy back in the day.
Seemingly to celebrate this new drop, the Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) is going at a deal on the Nintendo Store right now for $19.95 (previously $29.95). You’ll need either this or the full, $139.95 replica Virtual Boy setup to play any of the Virtual Boy games, so it’s not a bad option.

Finally (yes, there’s more), a whopping five Virtual Boy games have had their music added to the Nintendo Music app. So if you’ve got a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and you’ve been pining to hear the smooth, bit-crushed tunes of Virtual Boy Wario Land, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer or Mario’s Tennis, now you can.
