In the world of budget handheld gaming devices designed to play retro games, HyperMegaTech’s Super Pocket represents something of a casual entry point, offering decent features and build quality with a tailored list of pre-loaded games. It’s a bespoke experience, rather than something designed to be tinkered with, making it a great way to relive your favourite classics with minimal fuss.
And the latest iteration of the Super Pocket is sure to capture an audience, with the Super Pocket Rare Edition bringing a collection of 14 officially licensed titles from none other than Rare (formerly Rareware), including the one and only Banjo-Kazooie and the classic Battleloads. It even features Conker’s Pocket Tales, the original Conker game for the Game Boy Color that gave us the titular character before he developed a potty mouth.
Coming in a funk red, blue and yellow Rare-inspired colourway complete with the Rare logo, this adorable, pocket-able handheld sports the usual 2.8″ IPS screen, USB-C charging and tactile button layout, and as usual is compatible with Evercade cartridges opening up further access to over 650 games across 75 cartridges available for purchase separately.
Now, the obvious question here is how in the world are you supposed to play Banjo-Kazooie, a 3D platformer from the N64, just a d-pad and buttons? Honestly, I’m not sure. But it’s just neat that it’s here, right? The rest of the line-up is as follows:
