GTA 5 free upgrade

Rockstar just quietly announced free upgrades to GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series

Rockstar has announced that it’s giving away its current-gen enhanced ports of Grand Theft Auto V to all owners of the last-gen version, meaning those who currently own the game on PS4 and Xbox One can upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions at no extra cost. This is already the case on PC, where anyone who owns the delisted Legacy version can upgrade to the Enhanced version – which features the same updates as the current-gen console game plus PC-exclusive graphical features – for free.

The free upgrade on consoles will be available within the next day, where players on the newer machines can experience, “new graphics modes, improved texture qualities, HDR options and ray tracing, faster loading, and more.”

In addition, subscribers to GTA+ can now play the GTA 5 Story Mode as part of the included games library.

This was all announced, rather quietly, inside a Rockstar Games Newswire post encouraging GTA Online players to prepare for the upcoming Kortz Center Heist content. No doubt that the company sees its long-running cash cow as having something of a drop-off in the lead up to the hugely anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 12, at least as far as the single-player component goes.

The post reads:

GTA 5 – Free Upgrades and More…

“Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTAV and GTA Online ahead of the launch of The Kortz Center Heist. GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more.

.”PC players can also experience all these updates along with PC-only features such as ray traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free. And if you still haven’t experienced GTAV’s Story Mode yet, GTA+ Members can also now access it — along with GTA Online — as part of the GTA+ Games Library.”
