Resident Evil Requiem has only been out for just over a week, but it seems Capcom is delighted enough with the game’s rampant success that it’s already happy to start talking big update and DLC plans, including the confirmation that a story expansion is coming.
The reveal comes via a message from Koshi Nakanishi, director of Requiem, who reiterates previously-announced sales figures of over five million copies since launch – a record pace for the series – and also notes that work on the game continues as updates have already been pushed to tighten up the experience. But that’s not all!
“We are also planning to add more content,” Nakanishi says, starting with adding in a Photo Mode in the near future, along with a mini-game (probably not unlike the Ethan Must Die game for Resident Evil 7 that’s on the director’s shirt in this very video) to be released around May.
But the big ticket item is a new story expansion for the game, something revealed by way of a gag involving a bunch of AI-generated concepts set in the Resident Evil universe like “Forbidden Requiem 2,” a Victor Gideon gambling roguelike and… Dempsey family holiday photos? It’s certainly one way to announce DLC for your early Game of the Year contender.
Here’s the video in question:
Unfortunately actual information on the story expansion is scarce, it’s still early days after all, but Nakanishi says the team is going to “…delve deeper into the world of Requiem.
We gave Resident Evil Requiem a huge 5/5 stars here at covergeek, with my review saying, “A greatest hits mix of the finest bits of design, storytelling and pure terror to have come out of the series in its 30-year history, Resident Evil Requiem confidently does the impossible with a dual-protagonist setup that successfully makes Grace and Leon’s sections feel like two sides of the same coin. The same disgusting, freaky, ridiculous coin. This is the best that Resident Evil has ever been.”
