LEGO’s Mario Day announcements include Super Mario minifigures and a full reveal for the Luigi and Mach 8 set

LEGO and Nintendo have dropped a duo of exciting announcements for Mar 10, or “Mario Day,” including a proper reveal for the next LEGO Super Mario set and a confirmation that the theme is finally getting its long-awaited minifigure treatment.

LEGO 72050 Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 arrives April 1, 2026

Kicking things off is the official announcement of LEGO 72050 Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8, a set that was teased all the way back in January but that we’re now seeing in full for the first time. Clocking in a 2234 pieces, a fair chunk more than his brother’s adult LEGO Mario Kart model from last year, Luigi’s set will also come in at a very slightly higher asking price when it launches on April 1, 2026.

In the US, this set will retail for USD $179.99 ($10 more than the Mario equivalent), in Australia it’s AUD $279.99 and in the UK you’re looking at £159.99.

If this build is anywhere near as good as the Mario equivalent though, there’s no doubt it’ll be worth the cash for LEGO and Mario Kart fans. 72037 Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart is still one of my favourite LEGO builds of all time, so you can bet I’ve already put a pre-order down for this one. You can find it at the official LEGO Store online or your local authorised retailer for presale, but it should also be available at most toy stores after launch.

Take a look at some of the official imagery of LEGO 72050 Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 below. You can already imagine recreating the incredible Luigi Death Stare meme with this thing:

LEGO Super Mario minifigures are coming!

But that’s not all! Shortly following, we also got a first look at a LEGO Super Mario product coming in the distant-ish future – minifigures.

Yes, after all this time, we’re finally getting proper LEGO Super Mario minifigures, a change from the chunky, NFC-enabled interactive figures that have been a core part of the theme so far. It’ll be a bit of a wait, though – these aren’t coming until 2027.

There’s not a whole lot of other information on these just yet, aside from the reveal of the very nice-looking Mario minifig in the single teaser that LEGO and Nintendo shared on social media:

Mario looks fantastic here at minifigure scale, with simple but spot-on colours and printing on his torso, arms and legs and then a really nice-looking custom head mould that doesn’t skimp on his bulbous nose and iconic moustache. I’m super keen to see how the other characters look when more information arrives.
