Fortnite V-Bucks are getting a price hike

It’s not just groceries, fuel and RAM being affected by *gestures broadly at everything going on in the world* right now, with another of the world’s core commodities about to see a price increase that’ll affect millions. I’m talking, of course, about Fortnite V-Bucks.

Yep, Epic Games has announced that starting this March 19, 2026, V-Bucks values are changing to accommodate for what it says is a rising cost of running Fortnite.

Rather than increase the actual dollar price of V-Bucks packs, instead the packs will now come with less V-Bucks in them for the same price, while presumably premium items in the Fortnite Shop will remain priced as they are now.

This means the 1,000 V-Bucks pack now comes with just 800 V-Bucks, the 2,800 is down to 2,400, and so on. The only line item with an actual dollar value increase will be when you opt to purchase the exact amount of V-Bucks for an item, which is done through the Epic Games Store, where the rate will increase from USD ~$0.50 to USD $0.99 per 50 V-Bucks.

Purchases made through the EGS and eligible for Epic Rewards will still give 20% back in monetary credit. Existing V-Bucks gift cards will also continue to redeem at their displayed values.

Here’s how that looks in a table provided by Epic:

Somewhat balancing out these changes, Fortnite’s Battle Pass as well as OG, Music and LEGO Passes, will all see a decrease in V-Bucks cost, meaning you won’t necessarily be paying more for them, though they will in turn pay out less V-Bucks in total for progression. Importantly, it remains true that completing a Battle Pass will earn you enough V-Bucks to buy the next one.

Here’s the new structure:

Battle Pass Updates

The Battle Pass will now cost 800 V-Bucks and award 800 V-Bucks for completing it. Previously it cost 1,000 V-Bucks and you could earn 1,000 V-Bucks plus 500 in the Bonus Rewards.

V-Buck Costs for OG, Music, LEGO Passes

Starting with their next Pass:

  • The OG Pass will cost 800 V-Bucks (previously 1,000).
  • The Music Pass will cost 1,200 V-Bucks (previously 1,400).
  • The LEGO Pass will cost 1,200 V-Bucks (previously 1,400).

Fortnite Crew Updates

The V-Bucks grant in Fortnite Crew will change from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks. Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive an email with the timing and other details of this update in their region.

All told, not the best news in terms of value for Fortnite players, but not the most surprising turn of events. I’d have perhaps chosen different words to “…we’re raising prices to help pay the bills” as per the official Epic post, considering the company is worth billions of dollars, but here we are.
