Bandai Namco has announced that it’s bringing Once Upon a KATAMARI, last year’s excellent brand-new entry in the beloved series, to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026.
The Switch 2 edition of the game will feature “improved” visuals along with higher frame rates and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and will be compatible with save data transferred from the original Switch version. Oddly enough, owners of the Switch game will seemingly get an update that improves the framerate and unlocks mouse controls, but it’s not a full upgrade to the Switch 2 version of the game – that’s still a separate purchase. We’ve reached out for confirmation about a subsidised upgrade path but it doesn’t seem like that’s happening.
When the new Switch 2 version of the game drops, it’ll come with a slate of updated editions that now factor in a new Rolling LIVE Highlights DLC. This DLC will also be available to purchase separately on all platforms, and includes 10 quests pulled from the sorely-underappreciated Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE released on Apple Arcade last year, along with additional music and cousins.
Here are the refreshed editions of Once Upon a KATAMARI coming on October 8, 2026:
