EB Games is currently offering one of the wildest console trade-in deals I’ve seen in a hot minute, cheekily calling back to the launch of the PlayStation 5 in the year 2020 where nothing else interesting was happening.
That’s because, right now, EB stores are offering $749.95 trade-in value for any PS5 disc console. As in, the price that the PS5 originally sold for at launch. That means that, assuming you picked up your console before the price hikes started happening, you’re getting the full value back despite however long you’ve owned it. Not bad, right?
To take advantage, you’ll need your console plus all of the bits it originally came with (that’s the DualSense controller, HDMI, power and controller charging cable, plus the stand or stand clips), and you’ll need to make the drop off either before close of business on Thursday, April 23rd or before the cap of 2020 people takes advantage of the deal.
You’ll also need to be an EB World Plus member, which is the company’s paid membership program and costs $49 for 12 months, so if you’re not already subbed to that, it’s definitely a factor in the deal – though you can sign up during the trade process for the deal, at least. Of course, if you’re hoping to trade up your OG PS5 disc console for the shiny new PS5 Pro or even just the updated slim version, you’ll need to remember that those have recently increased in price – meaning there’ll still be either $620 (Pro) or $220 (Slim) to pay up as the difference based on the current EB World Plus prices for those machines. That said, you could also just take the cash value and shop around for the upgrade, excluding those living in WA where cash trades can’t be done.
