Nintendo has announced Pictonico, a new mobile game coming to iOS and Android devices later this month on May 28, and it’s a WarioWare-esque minigame compilation that uses your photos as characters.
To play the game, you’ll either snap a fresh photo of someone or find one in your camera roll, and they’ll become the star of one of the feature minigames – including ones where you can manipulate their faces, dress them up like an infant, put them in a red carpet fashion show or… make them secretly muscular?
It’s kind of an odd one, and although I’m certain it’s designed to be a fun and collaborative distraction I do get some odd vibes from this (Japanese-language) trailer, almost like the kind of bullying I would’ve someone who’s not me would’ve been subjected to at school:
Pictonico will be “free-to-start,” with some free demo versions of some of the minigames included, but players who want to experience the game properly will need to fork out for one or both paid content packs to get proper access to the games. Volume 1 is priced at AUD $9.49 / USD and Volume 2 is priced slightly higher at AUD $12.99 / USD $, but it’s unclear which games or how many each pack includes.
Here’s the official description of the game via Nintendo:
