Just as we exit one big showcase season in video games, it’s already time to start thinking about August 2026 and the lead-up to Gamescom. With publishers and promoters looking to breathe some of Geoff Keighley’s air around Opening Night Live on on August 25, a brand-new contender has appeared with a unique proposition.
Instead of dedicating stream-time to the video games of the future, Pixel Arcadia will be delving into the past for a showcase dedicated to everything retro gaming. Now, that was a bit of a misrepresentation as it’ll still be looking at releases that are yet to come, but the focus is squarely on new titles and technology with roots in the retro.
So expect revivals and re-releases of video game classics, evolutions of long-running gaming icons, retro-flavoured or otherwise nostalgic hardware, and even completely new IP that’s simply inspired by years gone by. Pixel Arcadia is yet to formally announce participants, but it promises a more meaningful engagement with the content than just a series of trailers, including deep-dive insights and commentary with developers.
