Grand Theft Auto 6 won't feature online multiplayer, will launch as a "single-player experience"

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and with pre-orders finally live, we now know a little bit more about the state of the game’s release.

Alongside confirming a $129.95 price point for the standard edition of the game (or $159.95 for the “Ultimate” version with extra digital goodies), Rockstar Games has also revealed, through its own messaging and more emphatically via an FAQ on the PlayStation website, that GTA 6 will not ship with an online multiplayer mode akin to GTA Online. Here’s what the FAQ states currently:

Does Grand Theft Auto VI have any multiplayer modes or features?

“Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.”

While this is probably unsurprising, given the previous entry also didn’t ship with its online multiplayer mode, the difference in time with that launch was only a couple of weeks or so. Rockstar has not yet made any indication about a similar timeline, or whether an entirely new mode is even on the cards versus drastically updating its existing and still super-popular GTA Online cash cow.
