God of War Laufey

God of War Laufey has been revealed with a full 20 minutes of gameplay

PlayStation closed out its mammoth June 2026 State of Play this morning with the big reveal of a long-rumoured new mainline God of War entry, titled God of War Laufey. As has been the prevailing word in “leaks” so far, this game shifts focus away from mainstay protagonist, Kratos, and instead casts players as Faye, Kratos’ second wife and mother to Atreus.

Now, if you’ve paid any attention at all to Santa Monica Studios’ modern God of War games, you’ll know that Faye is very much deceased before we ever meet her, and so it should come as no shock that God of War Laufey takes place in the afterlife – only, it’s the afterlife of the gods. Putting to bed any theories about which mythology this next adventure pulls from, the answer is seemingly… “yes.”

Debuting the game with an uninterrupted 20 minutes of gameplay, seemingly pulled from its early moments, we can already see names and faces from multiple mythologies across global history including the ancient Egyptian goddess of war, Sekhmet, and the Mongolian god of war, Begtse. Do you think they ever hung out with Ares?

Laufey will be joined by Phranque, a talking gelatinous cube, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon attached to a powerful sword. Also talking, naturally.

There’s no release date yet, but a heap more info has been plastered all over the PlayStation Blog and within further videos on the official PlayStation YouTube channel highlighting the game’s cast and development. Take a look:
