Metroid Ravenous samus

An unannounced Metroid game has seemingly been rated by Brazil’s ratings authority

Here’s an interesting one. If a listing published in the July 2026 edition of Brazil’s “Diario Oficial da Uniao” (Official Gazette of the Union) is to be believed, a new Metroid game could on the way in the (potentially near) future.

The game, seemingly titled Metroid Ravenous, was listed by the organisation – which manages and publishes information and communications coming from Brazil’s federal bodies, including media ratings decisions – and then all mention subsequently removed after it was picked up by message boards and news sites.

Of course, the internet being what it is, screenshots were taken before its removal and have been circulating since, offering little other information than a general age rating distribution and a “Production Year” of 2026, which could imply we’ll see this game announced or even released in the next six months, based on how this term is implemented in other games rating decisions published in Brazil.

Naturally, Nintendo has not in any way announced or indicated that a new Metroid title is on the way, so none of this should be taken as fact. We only just had the big June 2026 Nintendo Direct, so it does seem as though something, at minimum a tease, might have appeared there were a new Metroid title coming close to a launch or full reveal.

Still, speculation has kicked off based on the Metroid Ravenous name alone and its potential hints at the shock ending of developer MercurySteam’s excellent 2D Switch entry, Metroid Dread. It’s certainly an… interesting title, whether or not it has anything to do with the Raven Beak or X parasites, or is even real.

Metroid Dread came out back in 2021, so there’s been a good five years since we last got a proper 2D entry and plenty of time for one to be worked on, undisclosed. Nintendo may want to keep the momentum going as well, having launched Metroid Prime 4: Beyond late last year to end an 18-year drought on the mainline, first-person side of the franchise.

At this stage all we can do is wait and see, the ravenous fans that we are. I’ll leave you with this, the objectively best post about this rumour so far:
