After some unfortunate early embargo breaks gave us an idea of what to expect, Valve has now officially revealed the release date and pricing for its much-anticipated Steam Controller – a modern, dedicated PC controller built that brings together ideas from the original Steam Controller, the Steam Deck and competing pads for a pretty compelling little device.
So when will you be able to order it, and how much will it be? Let’s take a look:
Steam Controller price and release date
The Steam Controller will launch in Australia on May 5, 2026 at 3AM AEST, for AUD $149.
Orders will be available directly through the Steam website here.
For the folks over in the US, this puts the order launch date at May 4, 2026 at 10AM PT with a price tag of USD $99, and for the UK it’s May 4, 2026 at 6PM and £85.

Steam Controller features
As for what makes this particular controller (hopefully) worth that price tag? It’s sporting TMR thumbsticks, HD rumble, 35-hour battery life, four extra programmable back buttons, six-axis gyro that activates with capacitive touch and Steam Deck-style left and right track pads, situated just below each of the analog sticks.
It’s also fully compatible with the upcoming Steam Frame VR headset, which will see the Steam Controller through infrared tracking, and the Steam Machine console-style gaming PC with dongle-free pairing and remote wake-up.
Here’s what the product page for the Steam Controller has to say:
“Built for Steam, and configurable with Steam Input. Play all your games however you like, on whatever you like: PC, laptop, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and more.”
- Magnetic thumbsticks (TMR)
- Full set of inputs to play your whole Steam library
- 4x haptic motors for high definition rumble
- 8.39 Wh battery; 35+ hours of gameplay on a single charge
