Nintendo has blessed us with a stacked Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated entirely to celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise, revealing a ton of updates on the Ocarina of Time remake, new special edition hardware, upcoming feature film as well as other fun 40th Anniversary tie-ins.
One of the biggest reveals, that did unfortunately leak well ahead of time, is a gorgeous-looking special edition The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console, which comes out on October 29, 2026 – a week before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Alongside the console, an official The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary carry case and The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller will be available, the latter also coming with a special display stand if purchased from the Nintendo Store or Nintendo New York/San Francisco.
Finally, two new Amiibo have been announced with Young Link and Young Zelda set to launch in 2027, and each will unlock special in-game masks to use in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
